Current undergraduate and graduate students are highly encouraged to contact current graduate students to learn more about the lab. We would be happy to chat with you about potential research opportunities or connect you to other labs that share your interests.
Undergraduates Outside of Stanford
We typically take one student every summer through the RSL REU program. Please apply and mention our lab to be considered. Projects may range from computational work in image processing or machine learning to wet-lab work depending on individual interests and experience.
Prospective Graduate Students
If you are not yet at Stanford, you should start by applying to the academic department and program that most interests you. Graduate students typically come from Electrical Engineering and Bioengineering, but students are welcome from all departments!
There are several compelling reasons why you should consider Stanford for graduate school.
1. Multitude of excellent courses. Stanford has a large engineering program, meaning that there is a huge variety of courses you can take as a student here. Check them out here!
2. Rotation programs. Most BioE and EE students do 2-3 lab rotations during their first year to explore different research areas. You do not have to come into the graduate program locked into a specific lab.
3. Interdisciplinary, applied research is encouraged. Stanford encourages interdisciplinary research by funding students through fellowships, such as through Bio-X. There are also many opportunities (Bio-X, Neurosciences Institute, etc.) for students to showcase their research to potential collaborators.
4. Fun stuff to do outside of lab! Stanford has a large graduate student community. The vast majority of graduate students live on campus and plan fun activities to do together. In addition, most student groups have a significant fraction of graduate students. Finally, the weather is consistently amazing throughout the year, meaning that this is a great place to come if you're into outdoor activities.
