Engineering for MRgFUS of the Brain

Our lab is developing a number of technologies for MRgFUS in the brain. Some of these are summarized here.

Our neuro FUS coil is shown here. The membrane membraneSymbol is placed around the shaved head and seals the transducer cavity redarrow which is then filled with water. Half of the coil resides in the water bath greenarrow and is inductively coupled to the outside half purplearrow so that there are no wires or cables to the coil portion within the water.


We are developing volumetric thermometry for whole brain coverage. An example set of images of the temperature standard deviation is shown here. A gel phantom is outlined by the dotted circle. It is imaged within the water bath of the Exablate Neuro system. The conventional single slice 2DFT image has a pretty large standard deviation on the left. Our method on the right use multiecho spirals to provide greater sampling efficiency that then allows imaging of enough slices to cover the whole brain.
